Professional Services
To achieve its mission, the TransMedTech Institute can count on some thirty technology platforms located in its five founding institutions. These platforms offer high-caliber infrastructures and services for the development and validation of medical technologies.
Since its creation, TransMedTech has funded part of the salary of more than 30 HQP associated with the various platforms as part of its highly qualified professional (HQP) recruitment program.
Supervised by one or more researchers, these HQP adhere to the Living Lab mode and support the realization of interdisciplinary and intersectoral projects for the development, validation, and implementation of medical technologies with a high potential impact on patients and the health system. HQP also help train the next generation of leaders by passing on their knowledge to students and postdoctoral fellows.

Benjamin Péant
PhD in Microbiology
Benjamin Péant is an expert in microfluidic technologies, cell/tissue imaging and confocal microscopy, and chemotherapeutics. He has co-developed, from patient tumor samples, a new three-dimensional ex vivo cell model, called microdissected tissue – a world first – as well as a patented tool for the analysis of the molecular response of a tissue after treatment.

Amélie St-Georges-Robillard
B. P.Eng., PhD in Biomedical Engineering
A specialist in the design of microfluidic chips and the development of hyperspectral imaging techniques to analyze cellular response, Amélie St-Georges-Robillard has opened up new perspectives in diabetes research by improving the precision of on-chip measurements by increasing the number of captures per unit time.
INVESTIGATIVE HISTOPATHOLOGY PLATFORM
Before being made available to patients, many technological advances require a histological validation step to accelerate the science and implementation of new biomedical technologies.

Féryel Azzi
Research Pathologist
A rare pathologist who specializes in supporting scientific research, particularly in oncology, inflammatory diseases and biomarker validation, Dr. Azzi participates in the development of AI algorithms by reading thousands of metastatic slides, grading them for tumor regression and identifying different components to predict overall survival.
BIOMEDICAL NANOPHOTONICS PLATFORM
The mission of the platform is to develop diagnostic and therapeutic technologies based on the plasmonic and optical properties of colloidal nanoparticles.
DESIGN PLATFORM FOR OPTICAL RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The state-of-the-art optical instrumentation and data analysis platform meets the needs of clinical research, medical therapy, surgical guidance and biomedical imaging.

Alireza Akbarzadeh
PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Dr. Akbarzadeh has developed expertise in theoretical photonics, optical design and electrodynamics of light-matter interaction. In particular, he has helped a fluorescence tomography company develop a multispectral Monte Carlo simulation for 3D imaging. This innovative approach accelerates the design of optical microscopes capable of imaging tumors in 3D at low cost.
MOTION AND LOCOMOTION ANALYSIS PLATFORM
The platform allows the evaluation of human posture and locomotion through kinematic, dynamic and electromyographic analysis of movement.
CLINICAL ENGINEERING COORDINATION PLATFORM
The platform plays a key role in research and development and in the transfer of knowledge and innovations to clinicians for projects in the musculoskeletal disease sector.

Nikita Cobetto
P.Eng. and PhD in Biomedical Engineering
The platform’s spine surgery simulator was developed by Dr. Cobetto using her expertise in digital simulation. She also customized a Mayo Clinic clinician’s simulator with her surgical technique and the specific parameters of her pediatric patients to optimize their spine correction after surgery.
SMALL ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION PLATFORM
The platform supports experimentation from experiment design to data analysis.

Irene Londono
PhD in Cellular Biology
Dr. Londono’s work, whose primary expertise is in micro-CT imaging and data analysis, is evaluating the development of pathologies such as arthritis in mutant mice and the effect of therapeutic treatments, as well as studying the microvasculature of the brain and heart as a validation method for an innovative 3D ultrafast ultrasound technique.
MRI PLATFORM BIO-IMAGING NETWORK OF MONTREAL
The platform’s mission is to optimize and create new MRI sequences for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
CITADEL PLATFORM
The Center for Integration and Analysis of Medical Data, or CITADEL, makes medical data available to clinicians and researchers in a secure environment.

Marie-Ève Cantin
B. Economics
Ms. Cantin’s multidisciplinary expertise – law, economics, finance – contributed to the excellence of her coordination of the platform and the transfer of its model to other hospitals, CIUSSS and CISSS. She has also helped to establish a COVID biobank in Québec by ensuring a transfer of knowledge between the clinical and academic levels.

Rima Bouchakri
PhD in Computer Science – Data Engineering
Dr. Bouchakri, a programmer-statistician-data analyst, has mastered data mining and extraction, as well as artificial intelligence technologies and methods. Her expertise in medical data integration and processing has allowed her to extract variables by patient cohort in clinical trials, considerably reducing data collection time, as opposed to traditional individual manual collection.
DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING PLATFORM FOR MRI ANTENNAS
The mission of the platform is to increase the diversity of MRI systems through the design of radio frequency amplifiers and custom antennas to obtain more accurate images.
