Undergraduate Research Initiation Scholarships

Scholarships offered to undergraduate students to introduce them to medical technology research through an internship.

The internship must be full-time, lasting between 12 and 16 weeks, according to a schedule agreed between the student and his/her supervisor:

12 weeks > $6,500
14 weeks > $7,500
16 weeks > $8,600

Eligible applications

For students :

    • Be enrolled in a 1st cycle program at Polytechnique Montréal,  Université de Montréal or HEC Montréal
    • Have a minimum cumulative average of 3/4 (or 3.3/4.3) (the cumulative average is that which appears on the report card for the semester preceding this competition)
    • Have completed the minimum number of credits prescribed by the study profile for the internship (at least two sessions)
    • Have a status that allows you to carry out an internship as part of your studies (Canadian, permanent resident, or study permit with authorization to carry out an internship as part of your studies).
    • Cumulation of scholarships not permitted

Note: students who complete their bachelor’s program before May 1, 2024 are not eligible.

For supervisors applying :

    • Be a researcher from one of the 8 founding institutions of the Institut TransMedTech (Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, CHU Sainte-Justine, CHUM, Jewish General Hospital, Montreal Heart Institute, Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal).
    • Limited to 1 application per researcher

Eligible research projects :

Any project in line with the mission of the Institut TransMedTech (i.e. development of medical technologies and training of highly qualified professionals to meet society’s needs), in one of the technological areas and medical sectors prioritized by the Institut, is eligible.

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee according to the following criteria:

  • Quality and clarity of project description and deliverables (35%);
    Appropriateness of the project to the mission of Institut
  • TransMedTech (15%);
  • Internship environment, supervision and training provided (10%);
  • Student excellence (25%);
  • Interest in pursuing graduate studies (motivation) (15%).

Applications for this scholarship will be evaluated on the basis of their suitability for the medical technologies proposed in the Eligibility Requirements section.

The application must be submitted by a researcher-student tandem.

The competition runs from February 15 to March 15, 2024.
